Description

Corina L. Apostol offers her perspective on the convergence of art and technology in « Virtuality and the New Aesthetics of Presence, » inspired by her curatorial role in the Beyond Matter project. This pioneering research endeavor takes cultural heritage to the precipice of virtual reality by delving into the spatial qualities of art in the context of virtuality, culminating in a range of activities from digitally revived landmark exhibitions to contemporary showcases, artist residencies, and scholarly exchanges between 2019 and 2023.

Apostol’s lecture will highlight how Beyond Matter’s initiatives challenge and expand the parameters of art production, curating, and mediation in digital spaces. She will discuss the project’s contribution to the theoretical and practical discourse on virtual art spaces, showcasing how these platforms have the power to maintain and enhance the sensorial and intellectual engagement of physical art environments. The discussion will be enriched with insights from the project’s comprehensive catalog, featuring diverse curatorial reflections and in-depth artist essays.
