Les représentations binaires de l’IA, profondément liées au développement de la cybernétique, reflètent nos spéculations sur son évolution potentielle. Malgré l’existence de nombreuses études explorant différentes manières d’imaginer l’intelligence artificielle et son avenir dans la fiction, la compréhension de la manière dont les individus (femmes, hommes et personnes non binaires) directement impliqués dans des projets d’IA envisagent l’avenir reste limitée. Le tête-à-tête entre les chercheurs Ola Siebert et Sofian Audry explore ces questions et les relie à la conversation en cours sur la diversité des perspectives entourant les imaginaires sociotechniques au sein des industries de l’IA en Pologne et au Québec/Canada.
Binary representations of AI, deeply linked to the development of cybernetics, reflect our speculations on its potential evolution. Despite the existence of numerous studies exploring different ways of imagining artificial intelligence and its future in fiction, the understanding of how individuals (women, men and non-binary people) directly involved in AI projects envision the future remains limited. This one-on-one conversation between researchers Ola Siebert and Sofian Audry explores these questions and connects them to the ongoing conversation about the diversity of perspectives surrounding socio-technical imaginaries within the AI industries in Poland and Quebec/Canada.
Biographies
Ola Siebert
Ola Siebert est doctorante à la Faculté de communication de l’Université du Québec à Montréal (Canada). Sa thèse porte sur les imaginaires sociotechniques dans l’industrie de l’intelligence artificielle. Elle s’intéresse également à la nostalgie et à ses aspects performatifs, ainsi qu’à la relation entre le genre, la société et la technologie. Dans son projet post-doctoral, elle aimerait se concentrer sur l’intersection entre les perspectives environnementales et les imaginaires sociotechniques alternatifs, en se concentrant principalement sur les femmes autochtones qui travaillent avec l’IA et leurs visions de l’avenir.
Ola Siebert
Ola Siebert is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Communication at Université du Québec à Montréal (Canada). Her thesis focuses on sociotechnical imaginaries in the artificial intelligence industry. She is also interested in nostalgia and its performative aspects, and the relation between gender, society and technology. In her post-doc project, she would like to focus on the intersection between environmental perspectives and sociotechnical alternative imaginaries, focusing principally on Indigenous women working with AI and their visions around the future.
Sofian Audry
Artiste et scientifique, Sofian Audry enseigne les médias interactifs à l’École des médias de l’Université du Québec à Montréal et co-dirige le réseau Hexagram pour la recherche-création en arts, cultures et technologies. Son travail explore les comportements d’agents hybrides à la frontière de l’art, de l’intelligence et de la vie artificielle. Son livre « Art in the Age of Machine Learning » se penche sur les pratiques artistiques de l’apprentissage automatisé (MITPress, 2021). Les œuvres d’Audry se déploient à travers de multiples formes telles la robotique, l’installation, le bio-art et la littérature électronique. Ses travaux ont été présentés dans des lieux et événements internationaux majeurs.
Sofian Audry
Sofian Audry is an artist, scholar, Professor of Interactive Media within the School of Media at the University of Quebec in Montreal and Co-Director of the Hexagram Network for Research-Creation in Art, Culture and Technology. Their work explores the behavior of hybrid agents at the frontier of art, artificial intelligence, and artificial life. Audry’s book « Art in the Age of Machine Learning » examines machine learning and its practice in art and music (MITPress, 2021). Audry’s artistic practice branches through multiple forms including robotics, installations, bio-art, and electronic literature. Their work has been shown at major international events and venues.
