L’existence sans visage de la vie sur Internet trouve sa voix dans ce nouvel opéra passionnant des compositeur·rices primé·es Matilde Böcher et Asger Kudahl.

LOL – Laughing Out Lonely a été écrit pour le célèbre contre-ténor Morten Grove Frandsen, qui impressionne par son interprétation d’une multitude de marginaux dans un univers profondément dramatique, qui emmène le public dans les recoins les plus sombres d’Internet, où personnages misogynes, autodestructeurs, racistes et autres êtres marginaux ont trouvé une communauté absurde en ligne. Avec sa voix extraordinaire, Frandsen interprète la vie de la fille au « visage affreusement laid », qui se mutile pour oublier sa douleur, ou celle du garçon honteux, « l’agneau », qui rêve d’être abattu. Les paroles en anglais, basées sur des publications réelles de jeunes sur les réseaux sociaux, proposent un miroir à la fois sombre et stimulant de notre ère numérique. Le spectacle est mis en scène comme une chambre d’écho théâtrale, où le public fait partie du décor et se retrouve entouré de haut-parleurs et de selfie lights.

LOL est produit par la compagnie danoise novatrice OPE-N, qui combine les possibilités expressives de l’opéra avec le théâtre physique. Il en résulte des spectacles innovants, accessibles à un large public, qui apportent en même temps un renouveau significatif au genre opératique.

LOL – Laughing Out Lonely is written for the acclaimed countertenor Morten Grove Frandsen, who amazes with the embodiment of a myriad of outsiders in a thoroughly dramatic universe, that takes the audience into the darkest corners of the Internet, where misogynists, self-harmers, racists, and other marginalized existences have found an absurd community. With his extraordinary voice, Frandsen interprets the life of the girl with ‘The Fucking Ugly Face’, who cuts herself to forget her pain or the shameful boy ‘The Lamb’ who dreams of being slaughtered. The English lyrics are based on posts from young people on social media, and the performance is a gloomy and thought-provoking mirror of our digital age. It is staged as a theatrical echo chamber, where the audience is part of the setting and surrounded by loudspeakers and selfie lights.

LOL is a universal and global portrait of loneliness with a worldwide relevance. The objective of the piece is to address a young and new audience, with a direct and unpretentious approach, which is unusual for the opera genre.

LOL is produced by the ground-breaking Danish company OPE-N, which combines the expressive possibilities of opera with physical theatre. The results of this are innovative performances that are accessible to a wide audience and at the same time brings a significant renewal to the operatic genre.
